ABOUT THE U.N. STAMPS THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF FRESHWATER 2003 I had the wonderful pleasure of being commissioned to create three paintings which became six postage stamps for the United Nations concerning the crisis of disappearing freshwater. 40% of the worlds population lacks access to clean water, about 6,000 children die everyday from diseases associated with unsafe water. Water use has grown at twice the rate of the planets population. The blatant disregard for this life giving and life sustaining natural resource will soon teach all of us a lesson. Paying for bottled water has become a normal action where once it was free and safe. Major corporations are behind the scenes trying to harness ownership of this vital part of life. By the year 2025, half of the worlds population will not have access to freshwater.
